We recently got in this nice dog from owner surrender — for the reason we hear so often: “Moving and can’t take with us.” This reason is unfortunately quite common and it results in countless pets surrendered to shelters. These are pets who have to wonder what they did wrong to lose their homes and the people they thought loved them.
Maggie is an older middle-aged dog who has a pretty brindle coat and may be a Plott hound mix. On her intake form, the owner was honest with us. Apparently she can be aggressive with other female dogs and would do best in a home where she is the “queen bee” dog. But on a more positive note, she is very friendly, likes car rides, is playful and is house-trained and crate trained.
But the best thing about Maggie is that she loves playing with cats, and has lived with children! A lot of times potential adopters come into the shelter who have a cat and want to adopt a dog but wonder what dogs we have are good with cats. Often we don’t know the answer to this, but we now know that her previous owner feels that Maggie is indeed good with kitties.
Like so many of us, Maggie loves to eat and is chubby. She would be a wonderful walking companion for someone hoping to also lose a few pounds: A win/win for everyone!
So, if you don’t have a dog but are interested in bringing one into your heart and home, please come and meet Maggie. She’s lost her home through no fault of her own.
Feeling lucky? Raffle drawing this Saturday
Saturday is the big day for our annual shelter Open House and raffle drawing. The Open House will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the big drawing will be held at noon at the shelter annex building just next door to the shelter.
The raffle is a huge fundraiser for the Humane Society and we have sold tickets for several months. But Saturday is the big day when some lucky ticket holder is going to win the cash first prize of $2,000 with other nice cash prizes for second, third, and fourth place.
There will be storytelling and face painting for children of all ages beginning at 1pm at the annex.
Winners need not be present to win, but being at the drawing and Open House is a fun event, so we hope you can plan on coming!
