OCEAN PARK — Safety tops the agenda for the Village Club April 12, meeting. Held at 6 p.m. in the Ocean Park Fire Hall, 26110 Ridge Ave., three speakers will discuss methods and information available to help ensure your home and village is safe. Also being discussed is the upcoming Village Club roadside trash pick-up, the first project of the newly formed group comprised of residents living on the north end of the peninsula.
Pacific County Sheriff Scott Johnson will speak on the development of a Peninsula Crime Watch program. This is a new program that is still in beginning stages, but it has the potential to fill a need expressed by the community to fill gaps in community safety. He will also speak about the “trespass forms” in process of being redesigned for our area. Once filed with the sheriff’s department, they will be instrumental in enforcing and evicting unauthorized (squatters) from homeowners property. Traffic calming, a way to handle ongoing traffic issues such as speeding and end of road accidents experienced in the 227th and U Street areas will be introduced.
Fire District #1 Public Education Coordinator Lani Karvia will speak about the numerous safety and informational programs available to the community through the fire department. Project life safety, fire extinguisher training, wildland/urban interface, address signs, lock boxes, home safety visits, fire detectors, carbon monoxide detectors and life assistance are topics to be covered.
Pacific County DCD Code Enforcement Officer Tammy Engel will hold a brief safety program for the participants in the upcoming April 23 Village Club Roadside Trash Pick-Up event. Pacific County DCD is partnering the event by helping with insurance coverage and providing materials needed for success: bags, litter sticks, safety vests and hats and safety cones. The north end of the peninsula will be broken into four sections with roadside trash on the main roads targeted. Plans are to do this clean-up twice a year, spring and fall. Volunteers are still needed and a couple more dump run pickup trucks and drivers are needed too. He dump fees are being paid by donations. Once again, the generosity of community residents has shown brightly. In the matter of one hour on the Village Club’s Facebook page and with the encouragement of Ruth Hann by pledging to match donations made in that hour, almost all anticipated dump fees were spoken for. A few more truck loads need sponsors ($20 a dump) and more participants make the work load lighter. All will gather for hot dogs at Ocean Park Resort after the event. The club is dedicated to improving the quality of life in our villages. Those villages are: Ocean Park, Surfside, Klipsan Beach, Nahcotta and Oysterville.
