Autumn 2017’s first wind warning issued

LONG BEACH — The National Weather Service in Portland has issued a high wind warning for areas near beaches and headlands from noon to 11 p.m. this evening. South winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts 60 to 65 mph are predicted.

Coastal communities, including Astoria, Cannon Beach, Tillamook, Netarts, Pacific City, Raymond, Long Beach, Ocean Park, Naselle, Cathlamet and Cape Disappointment, can expect south winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts 50 to 55 mph.

Wind will be strongest from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Damaging winds could result in downed limbs and power lines. Isolated power outages are possible. Travel will be made more difficult, especially for higher profile vehicles.
