PACIFIC COUNTY — A broadband fiber cable was accidentally severed Monday morning, disrupting Internet service in a wide area of Pacific County.

At 1 p.m. Monday, Internet service provider Rainier Connect said they were advised by Pacific County Public Utility District No. 2 that the outage would take at least five more hours to resolve. A large piece of fiber cable was ripped out and crews are actively engaged in working to reconnect it. Earlier, service was estimated to resume by 7 a.m. Tuesday.

In the meantime, all financial institutions on the Long Beach Peninsula and many other businesses that rely on Internet connections were doing their best to conduct normal activities.

AT&T cellphone service also was affected by the outage. Some customers saw their service restored by about 11:30 a.m., but there were reports by other customers that they still didn’t have a signal mid-afternoon Monday.

Verizon cell service was unaffected.
