PACIFIC COUNTY — In June WellSpring Community Network was awarded a Community-Based Coalition Enhancement Grant to Address Local Drug Crises, called the CARA grant, from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

The CARA grant will fund prevention efforts around youth opioid use. Starting July 2018, the grant will provide $50,000 annually for three years. In all 55 CARA grants were awarded nationwide.

The CARA grant was available to current Drug-Free Communities (DFC) grantees as a way to continue and strengthen their work on youth substance use prevention. WellSpring was first awarded their DFC grant in fall 2009, which has provided $125,000 annually towards building community collaborations and addressing risk factors for youth substance use.

WellSpring Community Network is a local coalition who supports community wellness in South Pacific County through active collaborations.
