LONG BEACH — The City of Long Beach is a winner of the Washington State Department of Ecology’s Wastewater Treatment Plant Outstanding Performance Award for 2017.
The city is one of 111 in the state which achieved full compliance with National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System in 2017. The 111 plants make up about a third of all wastewater treatment plants in the state.
Plants were evaluated on a handful of focuses such as spill prevention planning, pretreatment, operational demands outlined in permits, monitoring and reporting requirements, and how plants were meeting state pollution limits.
Wastewater treatment plants are used to remove pollutants from wastewater and to in turn create treated wastewater which is safer for the environment.
