OCEAN PARK — Laura Helgeson, 102, died Feb. 28, 2017, in Ocean Park, Wash. She was born Oct. 26, 1914, in Hannibal, Missouri, the daughter of Edward Christman and Edna Mabe. She worked and traveled around the United States in the 1930s and ended up in Salinas, Calif., where is met and married James Adelbert Helgeson on Oct. 17, 1939.
Over the years she and her husband lived in California, Hawaii, Colorado and California and moved to the Peninsula in May 2014. She had worked as a drug store clerk and was a cashier in the employee cafeteria for a Denver bank.
She loved sports, and was a special fan of the San Jose Sharks ice hockey team and Denver Broncos football. She was a member of the Sports Car Club of America and the MG Car Club in Denver. She was also an 11-year member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and was of Roman Catholic faith.
Survivors include her daughter, Venita (Helgeson) Brazier and her son-in-law, Thomas S. Brazier of Ocean Park, as well as a granddaughter, Debbie Helgeson Penikas of Lake Havasu City, Ariz. Her parents, husband and a brother, Glen Christman preceded her in death.
