NASELLE — Holly Disch was a homerun away from the cycle in the Comets’ 20-4 win over Lake Quinault on May 2. Disch had a single, two doubles and a triple and struck out four batters in four innings. She settled in after walking the first three Elk hitters, retiring the last eight batters she faced.

Disch singled in Tayler Ford in the first. Taking the mound, she walked four batters in the first and the Elks took a 2-1 lead.

In the second, Disch stranded a leadoff triple with the help of a 4-5 double play turned by Holly Haataia. That kept the game tied at two against the upset-minded Elks.

In the third inning, Disch doubled in two runs to put the Comets ahead 4-2. The Comets scored four in the inning to lead 6-2.

Disch tripled home Hailey Weston during a four-run fourth, then doubled in Weston to make it 13-2 in the fifth. Leading 13-4 after six, the Comets piled on with a seven-run seventh.

Tayler Ford pitched the final three innings in relief, allowing two runs. She went 2 for 2 with two walks. Hailey Weston went 3 for 4. Disch was 4 for 5. Morgan Ridgeway was 2 for 3.

The game against Lake Quinault was played at Oakville following the Comets’ game against the Acorns as teams scrambled to get in the league games they needed in the regular season’s final week.

Wishkah shuts out NHS

WISHKAH — Emily Olson pitched a shutout, Ally Ancych homered, and Wishkah beat Naselle 7-0 on May 4.

Abbi Vanblaricom doubled in three runs during Wishkah’s four-run first inning. Ancych led off the third by hitting Tayler Ford’s low two-strike pitch well over the fence in left field. The home run gave Wishkah a 5-0 lead.

The Comets turned three double plays in the game. A third-inning lineout to Holly Disch resulted in an odd 5-4-9-6-4 double play. The runner on second took off early and rounded third; Disch’s throw got by second and into right field, but the Comets got the ball back to second in time. Shortstop Hailey Weston made a diving catch in the fifth and got the ball to second to double off another runner. Ford fielded a pop-up and doubled off a runner at first in the sixth.

For Wishkah, Emily Olson struck out eight hitters and induced ground balls all afternoon; Morgan Ridgeway’s fly out to right in the second was the only ball the Comets hit that left the infield. Naselle managed a pair of infield singles, one by Ford and one by Lily Harman.

Naselle fell to 3-4 in league play. The Comets have clinched third place and a spot at District.

Oakville wins

OAKVILLE — Oakville beat Naselle 11-5 in Oakville on May 2. First baseman Kennedy Adams and pitcher Michaela Bosio homered for the Acorns.

Holly Haataia’s single leading off the fifth made her the Comets’ first baserunner and sparked a four-run inning. Haataia led off the sixth with a double and finished 2 for 3.
