Kids try golfing, thanks to Elks

LONG BEACH — Thirty-one children enjoyed three summer days in the healthy air while learning to play golf. The Long Beach Elks sponsored the golf clinic at Peninsula Golf Course with the help of Sondra and Jim Eaton. Jim and his volunteers worked with the kids, ages 5 to 15, and Sondra provided three days of lunches following each clinic. Several parents expressed their gratitude to the Elks for providing an opportunity for the children to enjoy the out of doors experience and develop an interest in the sport. One 5-year-old let it be known that “this year he’s five, but next year when he comes back, he’ll be six.” He’s already looking forward to next year.
