PUYALLUP — Ilwaco took care of last-place Chief Leschi in three sets on Oct. 5 in Puyallup.

“We attacked; we hit really aggressively,” coach Trisha Gibson said. “We served well; we worked on spot serving.”

The Fishermen improved to 2-1 in league play and 4-4 overall.

Ocost tops IHS

ILWACO — Ocosta stopped Ilwaco’s three-game winning streak with a 25-11, 25-16, 25-20 win on Oct. 3, the Wildcats’ eighth win in nine games this season.

After a blowout win in the opening set, the Wildcats jumped in front 17-4 in the second set, with Kaylee Barnum’s serves tearing apart the Fishermen defense. Ilwaco kept battling. Sophia Marsh had a powerful spike, halting Ocosta’s momentum, and the game turned around a bit. Ocosta stretched its lead back to 23-10. Madeline Jacobson dug out a hard hit and sent it back over, jarring the Wildcats and leading to a Makenzie Kaech spike. That sparked a 6-1 Ilwaco run, including two more kills from Kaech, before Ocosta closed out the set.

Ilwaco got off to a strong start in the third set, nailing hits to the corners and sidelines and taking a 10-8 lead. Ilwaco was still close at 19-18 late in the set, but the Wildcats pulled away late. Barnum finished the match off reaching over the net for a spike.
