Freshman Emma Brundage set a personal record with a 23:28.5 run at the Oct. 6 Bill Kehoe South Sound Invite at St. Martins University in Lacey. Brundage took 83rd in a tough field of 147 runners, mostly from big schools, in the varsity race. Most of the runners who finished near her have regularly been in the top third of their fields this year.

Ordinarily the trio of Carli Kemmer, Estella Sheldon and Alex Carper leads the way for Ilwaco, but Brundage broke into that group, finishing with the second-best Ilwaco time. Sheldon led Ilwaco with a 65th-place 22:46.7. She finished a spot ahead of Steilacoom’s Bridget Hubbard, who was coming off a third-place finish in a field of 28 earlier in the week. Kemmer finished in 24:09.9, with Carper following in 24:13.9. Nisa Mendoza was right behind them at 24:24.5. Kaytlenn Whelden came in at 26:13.8, Daniela Mendez in 28:49.5.

In the boys’ race, Daniel Whiting was 59th in a varsity field of 163, finishing in 17:56.7. Tristan Trudell came in at 18:19.3. Colton McNabb (19:25.8), Ghannon Whelden (19:34.7), Griffen Cutting (20:51.8), Logan Simonson (20:52) and Brady Rasmussen (21:05.8) followed for Ilwaco.
