ILWACO – Elle Personius scored goals at the end of both halves for a 2-0 Ilwaco victory over Astoria’s junior varsity team Wednesday, Oct. 10.

The teams were locked in a stalemate for most of the first half, with neither creating much of an offensive threat. In the final seconds of the first half, Personius put a left corner kick near the goal, then pounced on the rebound that bounced back toward her. From about a 20-degree angle, she took a shot, which rolled into the right corner of the goal to put Ilwaco on top.

Ilwaco got a steady supply of scoring chances in the second half. Personius just missed off the cross-bar on one, and the Astoria goal keeper made a diving stop on another. With 4:15 in the game, Personius got the ball near the goal to the left. She was well-covered but got her shot by her defender and in, making it a 2-0 game.
