LONG BEACH — One to two inches of rain are predicted to fall in Pacific County during daylight hours Sunday, followed by another one to two inches Sunday night, according to the National Weather Service in Portland. A gale watch is in effect for offshore waters for about the same period.

Weather on Saturday is expected to be fairly pleasant, continuing a pattern that has persisted to a greater or lesser extent for the past week.

On Tuesday, Dec. 30, the area experienced all-time record high atmospheric pressure. The nearest official weather station in Astoria set a new record of 1042.9 hPa or 30.80 inches. The old record was 30.74 inches. This huge mountain of air over the Pacific Northwest resulted in crystal-clear skies but sometimes-freezing temperatures.

After this Sunday’s rainstorm, showers are expected to taper off, with blue skies returning Tuesday and Wednesday.
