ILWACO — The Ilwaco High School basketball teams doubled up on the visiting Tacoma Baptist Crusaders Saturday night, coming away with resounding victories in both games.
It was only a few weeks ago that the Ilwaco boys (1-1, 3-7) picked up their first win in a couple years. Saturday night they picked up their first league win in just as long, beating Tacoma Baptist 62-56. The team held off a late surge by the Crusaders (1-2, 5-5) and their star player Dayton Pascua, who scored 14 of his game-high 27 points in the fourth quarter. Ilwaco was led by Ethan Bannister and Nick Griffitt, who both scored 14 in the win.
The Lady Fishermen (2-0, 10-1) had an easy time winning their eighth-straight game, 75-37. It was the fourth-straight game the Ilwaco girls scored at least 70 points in a game. IHS hit the 40-point mercy rule in the final 30 seconds of the game.
The Lady Fishermen continue to show how deep their team is with Madeline Jacobson leading the team with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Makenzie Kaech had 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Emily McMillan added a dozen points in the win.
