Incumbent South District Court Judge Doug Goelz, 64, has been on the bench since 1988. This year, he faces his first challenger, Nancy McAllister, 53, an attorney who has been practicing family law and public defense in Pacific County and elsewhere for more than 20 years. In individual interviews at the Chinook Observer, each spoke about their passion for their work, their ideas for improving the local court system, and of course, why they believe they deserve your vote.

These interviews were edited for clarity and brevity.
