CHINOOK — The Bayside Singers will open their 2016-17 concert series with a Saturday afternoon performance in Chinook on Oct. 22 in the Chinook Event Center at 2:30 p.m. The 40-member chorus will be initiating the use of portable risers with chairs for the first time since their summer purchase, enabling the audience to both hear and see the performers more readily, and giving the singers a better view of conductor Barbara Poulshock.
The purchase of the risers for the non-profit chorus was made possible by a $10,000 grant from the Templin Foundation. Their acquisition will also make it possible for the chorus to perform at other community sites, which could not accommodate their needs in the past.
The selections for the program Saturday will include several numbers that will be part of the annual Christmas concert by the chorus in December. Barbara Bate will be pianist for both events.
Chorus president Clay Nichols said that the chorus is looking forward to extending its music with performances in the southeast areas of the peninsula.
There is no charge for the Chinook appearance, but donations will be accepted at the door to help defray the cost of music and accompanists.
