ILWACO, OYSTERVILLE - Hundreds of people attended the Peninsula Players performances of "Deadwood Dick" June 24, 25 and 26 at Hilltop School Auditorium.
The audience participated in the performances by cheering, booing and offering lines. The audiences roared with laughter when hero Ned Harris (Dan Driscoll) dove between Calamity Jane's (Penny Herrington) legs to rescue a damsel in distress. The audience cheered and laughed during the finale when Lily Blossom (Andrea Patten) was restored her sight.
Immediately following the last performance, actors stayed in costume for a cast party over Willapa Bay at the historic Oysterville Cannery. Their 19th century costumes fit perfectly in the Oysterville National Historic District. Many local supporters of the arts joined the cast as they toasted each other and ate fine foods well into the night.
Bob Lindberg directed and produced the play. He was ably assisted by Carole Barger. Many requests have been made for encore performances which the Peninsula Players may consider. Plans are being made for performances of other plays.
