FortColumbia hillsidecoveredin flowers

Scarborough Hill and the trails above Fort Columbia State Park were covered with deep purple-blue flowers last week, one of our area’s most spectacular and least appreciated spring displays. These flowers are a huge population of tall larkspur, Delphinium trolliifolium. “It’s a lovely walk when they are in full bloom, which is now. One of the local places we can walk and see more than 1 million flowers per mile — I measured and calculated the number of flowers per 100 feet one year to confirm this,” peninsula botanist Kathleen Sayce said.
