Health Tip of the Week: Hypoglycemia

Hypoglycemia means low blood sugar. It is not a disease, but it is a sign that your diet needs improvement. The symptoms are:

• irritability or anxiety

• feeling lightheaded or faint

• weakness or lack of energy

• increased heart rate

These are signs that you need to eat a well-balanced diet that is lower in simple sugars (found in soft drinks, fruit juice, pastries, candy) and higher in both protein (meat, fish, dairy products, eggs, beans, tofu) and complex carbohydrates (whole-grain breads, beans, lentils). Healthy snacks between meals can help keep your blood sugar at a steady level.
