Youth summit in Cathlamet on ThursdayCATHLAMET - Wahkiakum Community Network is hosting a free public educational summit on Sept. 29 at the River Street Meeting Room in Cathlamet. Julia Dilley, epidemiologist for Washington State Department of Health, will facilitate this event. The goal of this event is to introduce the use of risk factors, protective factors, and developmental assets, as well as compare trends of substance abuse by utilizing past and present healthy youth surveys, and discuss how Search Institute Survey of Developmental Assets compliments that data. The public is invited to participate in the afternoon portion of the event from noon to 4 p.m. to analyze the data trends, and discussion will focus around the feedback obtained from local youth, as well as a look at local prevention efforts aimed at reducing youth substance abuse. Lunch will be provided at no cost to all participants. The River Street Meeting Room is located at 25 River Street in Cathlamet (next to the PUD). Sunnycamp on Willapa Bay this weekendWILLAPA BAY - For the fourth year, a small group of folk-music enthusiasts from Washington and Oregon, British Columbia and California will meet for a weekend of singing and playing instruments from 4 p.m., Friday, Sept. 30 through 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 2 at Camp Morehead on Willapa Bay. There will be workshops, song circles, a concert, and lots of time and space just to make music. Dance of Peace planned at PSACKLIPSAN - On Saturday, Oct. 1 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and again from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., the public is invited to participate in simple circle dances as moving meditations or body prayers for peace at the Peninsula Senior Activity Center at 21603 Pacific Hwy.
