SEAVIEW - On Sunday, Dec. 28 at noon the Sou'wester Lodge in Seaview is honored to welcome back international introspective jazz guitarist John Stowell and jazz vocalist Kelley Shannon.
This thoughtful, reserved guitar virtuoso may well have the secret to perpetual motion encoded in his genes. Stowell, the most peripatetic of performers at the Sou'wester during the past 26 years, last performed here in fall, and will nest briefly at the lodge, on his return from touring Ireland, Germany, New York, Boston, Florida, California and Arizona.
Stowell continues to tour, record and teach internationally. He has been an artist in residence at prestigious schools throughout the United States, Canada, Germany, Indonesia and Argentina. He is a contributing columnist to magazines nationally and abroad.
Kelley Shannon has trained both as a classical as well as a jazz vocalist. Returning from New York, she is presently performing in Portland every Tuesday with guitarist Steve Blackman. She has recorded and participated with other jazz artists in a number of CDs.
Together she and Stowell have performed at numerous jazz festivals and colleges nationwide, as well as at concerts in France and Italy. Local jazz enthusiasts will remember her also from her performances at the Liberty Theater with Nancy King and Robert Moore.
At present John and Kelley are working together on a film and on a CD.
The Sou'wester welcomes everyone interested in a casual, intimate noon hour of mellow jazz with these two committed musicians. There is no charge. The artists and the lodge provide their services free. A donation to charity is appreciated but not obligatory. Complimentary light refreshments are provided.
Because of limited seating in the lodge's open-beamed living room, advance reservations are advised. For reservations and call the Sou'wester Lodge at 642-2542.
