OYSTERVILLE — A favorite summer tradition returned Sunday, with bells on — the Oysterville Church music vespers service.

The Ocean Beach Presbyterian Church hand bell choir was the featured musical artist, kicking off a season that will feature 10 more performances, one every Sunday at 3 p.m., through September 2.

The bell choir, made up of 11 performers plus two guest children, played 37 different bells together through an eight-song set that featured spirituals, as well as secular music pieces. Following the musical score, the bells are rung simultaneouly by the various players to sound chords or form arpeggios and melodies.

The wonderful accoustics of the old church building lent itself well to the chiming tunes. The choir was led by Stephanie Fritts, who conducted and performed.
