A whale washed ashore

Peninsula beachcombers encountered this smelly surprise — a long-deceased whale — near Oysterville beach approach this past weekend. Local whale populations are considered to be healthy in most respects, with large populations of grays, humpbacks and other species. However, there have been growing concerns in recent years that the North Pacific’s condition may be declining, leading to nutritional deficits for some whales.
