Eagle feathers are precious, restricted but findable

Thanks to a Native American friend, we are able to show you several bald eagle feathers. The feather on top is a tail feather, while on the bottom is a flight feather. Special thanks to the Bald Eagle Foundation for the many facts supplied.

You can look for them, find them, but you can’t keep them. Many a beachcomber’s dream is to find an eagle feather, but did you know that keeping an eagle feather could result in a $100,000 fine and a year in prison? A second offence is upgraded from a misdemeanor to a felony, and carries a maximum penalty of two years in prison and a $250,000 fine. The act also provides for a civil penalty of up to $5,000.

This article is dedicated to conservationist and eagle lover Bobbi Boyles.
