Riverfront trolley association looking for a few good conductors

A volunteer conductor tells passengers about the Astoria riverfront

ASTORIA - The Astoria Riverfront Trolley Association is looking for a few good conductors, motormen and motorwomen.

A class for conductors will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, May 18, and 6:30 p.m. May 21. The two-hour class will review the history and operation of Old 300 and take a ride on the trolley to review the scenic highlights seen by passengers.

Conductors talk to the passengers and give the narration on the Astoria Riverfront Trolley, Old 300, as it rolls on the tracks along the waterfront. Motormen have been trained as conductors and have had additional training driving and operating the trolley. Conductors and motormen sign up for three-hour shifts of their own choosing and volunteer as often as they like.

To become a motorman, candidates must have attended a conductor training class and attend a motorman class in early summer. Additional training time is required onboard Old 300 in order to become a certified motorman.

• Class sizes are limited. To reserve a space, call the Astoria-Warrenton Area Chamber of Commerce at 325-6311.

• For more information about Old 300 online, go to www.old300.org.
