23rd annual Garlic Fest this weekend

OCEAN PARK - Follow your nose to the 23rd Annual Northwest Garlic Festival, Saturday June 19 and Sunday June 20 at Sheldon Field in Ocean Park.

In our land of clams, crab and oysters, what are folks here looking forward to in June? Garlic, and plenty of it! Celebrate the passion for this exalted bulb with the faithful throngs who make the pilgrimage each June to the NW Garlic Festival.

Over 80 specialty food and craft vendors will offer their delightful wares, centered on the garlic theme.Experience this supernaturally reputed mythical herb prepared and put to use in every imaginable way - including some ways that go way beyond. Where else could indulgence be so healthy? Succulent garlic oysters or garlic-smothered sausages paired with a garlic jam. And for dessert? Decadent chocolate-covered garlic cloves or donuts laced with garlic herbs and cheese.

There will be live music Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with the Lipstick Dolls and from 2:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. with the Thunder Rose Band; Sunday 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. the Lipstick Dolls play again, followed by the Blue Light Band until 4:30 p.m.

In a search to find the tastiest, if unconventional treats, there will be a garlic dessert cookoff. Pie, cake, cookie, candy, whatever! Bring your recipe and prepared dessert to the judging, Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

Remember, it is chic to reek -of garlic that is!
