ILWACO - The Lower Columbia River Water Trail Committee announces a series of community open houses scheduled for this spring to feature the work underway to develop the Lower Columbia River Water Trail and solicit community feedback.

Each open house will introduce the water trail concept, collect ideas and suggestions from community members, and provide information on paddling safety. A short presentation, kid's activities, raffle prizes, and light refreshments are also on the agenda.

The Water Trail will help non-motorized boaters experience the Lower Columbia River in a safe and environmentally sensitive way, whether for day or overnight trips. The Water Trail Committee has divided the 146 mile water trail into seven sections, or reaches, beginning with Reach One at Bonneville and ending with Reach Seven at the mouth of the river. Community open houses are being planned for each reach. One is planned in Ilwaco - May 14 at Shorebank Pacific, between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
