LONG BEACH - Combine two outdoor adventures in one and discover the thrill of sea kayaking with kites! On Sept. 14 and 15, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., the World Kite Museum is offering for the first time a class that combines kite flying with kayaking.

This one-session class will be offered both days and is being taught by Jon Reinschreiber. The course will include basic equipment involved, how to rig your boat, selection of a proper kite, boat safety and "how to do it!" This is a land-based course, but class participants can bring their kayak. No prior experience is necessary, but competency in a sea kayak is required. Register in advance at the World Kite Museum in Long Beach or by calling 642-4020 or at the Nahcotta Boat dock on Sept. 14 beginning at noon.

Reinschreiber is an avid practitioner of both sports. He has been a kite flyer and shop owner of Portland's Paint The Sky Kites for 13 years. He is also an experienced sea kayaker and has taught many classes, including at the West Coast Sea Kayak Symposium at Port Townsend.
