Buoy 8 sounded mournful Sunday morning, March 5, after being washed ashore by powerful waves on Benson Beach in Cape Disappointment State Park. Stranded high on the shoreline, the U.S. Coast Guard Aids to Navigation team may have their work cut out for them repositioning the large and expensive whistling buoy back to its normal station on the south side of the main Columbia River shipping channel.
