VANCOUVER - Alethea B. McBride died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003 in Vancouver. She was 86.

Mrs. McBride, whose maiden name was Opedal, was born Oct. 5, 1917, in Silverton, Ore. She moved to Vancouver in 1941. She graduated from the University of Portland, and became a registered nurse.

She and her husband John were founding members of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and she was a member of the St. Jude's Altar Society, St. Joseph's Parent Club and the Young Ladies Institute.

A long-time resident of the Peninsula, she also enjoyed spending winters in Yuma, Ariz., playing bridge and cribbage and tending her flower garden.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, John J., at home; two daughters, Mary Remsing and Elizabeth Kuepfer, both of Vancouver; son, David of Portland; 11 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
