SEATTLE - Former local resident Aura T. Hagland, 81, died Aug. 4, 2003, at an adult care facility in Seattle.

She was born Aug. 20, 1921, in Astoria, to Andrew and Jenny Metsala and grew up on the family dairy farm in Rosburg. She graduated with honors from Naselle High School and attended business college in Longview.

Mrs. Hagland worked as a secretary for many years. She enjoyed flower gardening and travel.

Her husband, Hugo Hagland, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, James Hagland of Woodinville; two daughters, Joyce McElroy of Richland and Anne Meador of Seattle; three sisters, Aune Tienhaara and Ailie Lee, both of Longview, and Alma Metsala of Portland; seven grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today at Calvary Christian Assembly of God Church, 6801 Roosevelt Way, NE, Seattle, WA 98115.
