CENTRALIA - Betty Jane Nicholson, 77, died Jan. 22, 2005, in Centralia. The daughter of Lester and Helen (Zurfluh) Hartman of Lebam, she was born Feb. 21, 1927. She graduated from Valley High School.

In December 1951 she married Roy Nicholson in Long Beach. They had lived in Rockaway, Ore., and Eastern Washington before settling in Centralia.

Mrs. Nicholson was employed as a telephone operator. Upon moving to Centralia, she began her career with the State of Washington, Department of Social and Health Services as a clerk typist. She retired from DSHS.

She loved trips to Reno, Nev., time at the beach, clam digging and gardening. She never missed a family get together. She loved to bake and always made homemade candy for everyone at Christmas.

She is survived by her sister Iona Bunch of Bremerton; nephews Ron Hartman of Seattle, Dennis Bunch of Gig Harbor, and Jerry Nicholson of Maryland; nieces Karen Hartman and Janice Lamb, both of Centralia, Marietta Bergman of Port Townsend, Linda Hanson of Silverdale, uncle and aunt Vernon and Ella Worthington of Long Beach; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Roy Nicholson in 1998, brother Lester Hartman, sister Awanda Hartman and nephew Steve Bunch. A memorial service was held on Jan. 28 at Sticklin Funeral Chapel in Centralia.
