Biggest gift ever: North Head Lighthouse

After many years of hoping, negotiating and waiting, volunteers are rejoicing that the federal government has transferred ownership of North Head Lighthouse to the state. With the title now cleared, restoration efforts will be able to proceed more smoothly.

OLYMPIA — After nearly two decades of waiting, the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission has announced the official transfer of ownership of the North Head Lighthouse to State Parks from the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG).

While the USCG Aids to Navigation team will continue to maintain the light itself, the landmark as a whole will be maintained by State Parks with support from the Keepers of North Head Lighthouse.
