ILWACO - Long Beach resident Billie Jean Sacks, 69, died June 28, 2006, in Ilwaco. The daughter of Arthur and Elva (Raines) Burke, she was born Sept. 20, 1936, in Cherokee County, Ala. She grew up in the Cherokee area and graduated from high school.

On Aug. 20, 1955, she married Steele Sacks and they lived in Alabama until moving to Long Beach in 1963. Mrs. Sacks was a wife, mother and homemaker and also assisted her husband in the operation of their cranberry farm. She found great pleasure in animals and enjoyed caring for her flowers and shrubs.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years; daughter Tanya Sacks and son-in-law Joe Camp of Vancouver; son Lane Sacks of Long Beach; sisters Evelyn and Jennie of Alabama and Juanita of New Mexico. Her son Brett preceded her in death.

A graveside service was held at Lone Fir Cemetery in Long Beach on July 1. The family requests memorials to the South Pacific County Humane Society, P.O. Box 101, Long Beach, WA 98631. Arrangements by Penttila's Chapel by The Sea, Long Beach.
