Boat destroyed by fire at Ilwaco docks

Justin Russell of the Long Beach Volunteer Fire Department took this photo of Mi Choice, a 34-foot recreational fishing boat destroyed by fire last Wednesday night at the Port of Ilwaco.

ILWACO - A recreational fishing boat caught fire Wednesday night at the docks in Ilwaco, but left no pollution in Baker Bay, the U.S. Coast Guard said.

Ilwaco and Long Beach Volunteer Fire Departments responded along with the Coast Guard when a fire was reported aboard the 34-foot vessel Mi Choice, according to Bob Coster, civilian search and rescue controller at Coast Guard Group Astoria.

By the time the 52-foot motor lifeboat Triumph arrived from Cape Disappointment, the fire was out and smoldering, Coster said. The lifeboat crew moved the vessel so fire department personnel could better access it. The fire's cause is unknown, according to the Coast Guard.
