LONG BEACH - Long Beach resident Bobby Lee Oden died Nov. 23, 2004, of natural causes. He was 58 years old. Born in Oklahoma City, Okla., on July 13, 1946, he was the son of William and Rossia (Watts) Oden. When he was 5 or 6 years old he moved with his family to Hood River, Ore.

He attended school in Hood River and at the age of 17 enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving in the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1966 and then served three years in the naval reserves. After receiving his military discharge he returned to Hood River and for a short time was employed by Diamond Fruit Company. He became a trucker and worked for commercial auto carriers Convoy, Ryder and then Allied Carriers for the next 28 years.

In 1972 he married Kathryn Upson, and they made their home in Stevenson. The couple became parents of a son and a daughter. They later divorced. In 2003 he moved to Long Beach to be near the ocean.

He was a very hard working man who loved his family. He had a passion for fishing, loved the ocean and enjoyed old movies. Survivors include his daughter Michelle Norvald of Portland; son Matthew Oden of Middletown, N.J.; sister Bunnie Rene of the Dalles, Ore.; one grandchild; one niece and a nephew.

No public service is scheduled. Cremation arrangements by Penttila's Chapel by The Sea, Long Beach.
