ILWACO — The Boys and Girls Club of the Long Beach Peninsula is proud to announce 12-year-old sixth grader Alec Bell and his fourth grade sister, Arianna, as the January Club Kids of the Month. The siblings have been club members since the day the club opened in September 2008.

Alec says Boys and Girls Club is “a great place to go after school and if you have any problems you can go to the staff … The staff are great! They know my problems, if I have any, and they work with any age group and they are nice to everyone!”

With Boys and Girls Club just moving into its new location at the old high school earlier this year, Alec says, “We have more room to play, there is more stuff to play with and even though we can’t go outside we have the recreation area and we have a lot of room.”

“It’s bigger, there is more to do,” 9-year-old Arianna agrees. “It has helped the kids be better because we aren’t crammed into the [Long Beach] school.”

Alec says his favorite place in the new facility is the recreation area, “where I can be crazy and have fun with all my friends!”

Arianna enjoys helping out at club and adds, “I like to help with the cooking club. I love to touch the food and make it!”

Arianna says it’s a great feeling to be picked as Kid of the Month.

“It feels great that I know everyone knows me and everyone thinks of me like a friend,” her brother says.
