A 30-foot whale reportedly landed atop a 38-foot sailboat Thursday morning, about a half hour after the start of the Oregon International Offshore Race to Victoria, B.C.

The boat's mast was broken into three pieces and suffered other damage to its rigging, but there was no major damage to its hull.

None of the crew members on board the boat were hurt.

The U.S. Coast Guard sent a 47-foot motor lifeboat from Cape Disappointment out to help escort the boat into the West Mooring Basin.
