NASELLE — On Sept. 1, volunteer firefighters from Pacific County Fire District 4 in Naselle created a parade of firefighting vehicles to welcome home long-time fire chief Doug Sandell.

Sandell returned home earlier in the day after undergoing both liver and kidney transplants at OHSU in late July. As the parade stopped in front of the Sandell residence, Sandell came out to express his thanks to his fellow firefighters and his happiness to finally be back home again.

“It was nice to see a smile on his face,” said firefighter and Commissioner Cliff Kilponen. “You could tell it had been a trying experience, but he was looking good and said he is feeling good. We were all very happy to see him and look forward to his return to the fire station.”

Naselle and surrounding communities rallied behind Sandell to help cover a little of the cost of his long medical emergency.
