ILWACO — This weekend will mark an historic point in the life of Pacific Bible Church. After nearly 12 years at the helm, Pastor Colin and Mary Wellard are transitioning back to Canada. The Wellards will be succeeded at Pacific Bible by Pastor Vern and Kaaryn Frank and their three children, Sarah (11), Paige (11) and Judah (8).
“Leadership Transition Weekend” begins this Friday at 7 p.m. with a farewell/welcome event.
There will be an open mic, refreshments and an opportunity for the community to meet and engage with Pastor Vern and his family and say goodbye to the Wellards. Saturday night at 7 p.m. there will be a “Praise and Prophetic Assembly.” Planned Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m. is the official “Leadership Transition Service.” The public is welcome to attend these events.
The Franks have been on the Peninsula since last fall after completing a several-year ministry in the Midwest. They came alongside Pastor Colin in a planned transition in Ilwaco. Besides duties at the church, Pastor Vern has been substitute teaching for Ocean Beach School District.
“The Franks have been well received both by the church and the community and are looking forward to many years ahead serving the Peninsula,” the church said in a press release.
From their home base, Hillcity Church in Abbotsford, BC, the Wellards will continue to minister in short-term church recovery, short-term missions, retreats, conferences and a variety of church-related venues in Canada, the U.S. and abroad.
Pastor Colin said, “There’s no retirement in the kingdom of God, so that’s not in the plan!”
“The Wellards have been a vital part of Peninsula life and are well known for their music and love of people. They will be sorely missed,” the church noted.
The church is located at 501 North U.S. Highway 101 above Black Lake.
