LONG BEACH — Volunteers Everett Clayton, Bonny Trotter, Casey Meling, Rebecca Morales, Faith Wilson and Natalie Hanson organized and distributed gifts at the first Toys for Peninsula Kids event.

Toys for Peninsula Kids was a huge success thanks to the many volunteers helping approximately 360 families picking out Christmas toys for their children, wrapping them and taking home to be given out on Christmas morning. The toys were given out at the Long Beach Elks Lodge and the Pacific County Fire District No. 1 in Ocean Park.

“This would never have happened without the terrific donations from the most wonderful community on the planet,” organizers said. The program, which was a partnership between the American Legion Post 48, Fire District 1 and the Long Beach Elks Lodge, was in its first year. This new program will continue next year due to the community help and the reaction from the grateful parents.

“A special thank you to the many volunteers for their help and to the Chinook Observer for their great coverage and help in spreading the word,” organizers said.
