NASELLE - Inside a red barn-style building with a life-size Holstein cow, the combination of caffeine, ice cream and chocolate cookies have made for some tasty choices at Naselle's newest business, the Cool Cow Coffee Company.

Established in July, the Cool Cow Coffee Company operates under the goal to give all customers the best possible experience through happy employees, quality products and excellent customer service. Together, owner Natalie Morgan and manager Nettie Calog have more than 60 years of experience in the food service industry.

With an employee manual that relays the importance of a guest's experience through customer service, Morgan says she likes to encourage employee participation in every aspect of the business and is a strong believer that happy employees really do make for happy customers.

"We want to be different! We want our employees to know that we really do want them to be happy and have fun while they are working," says Morgan, who has trained large groups of food servers about the art of customer service for more than 31 years. "I have worked for a number of food corporations who have always started out saying that they cared about their employees, but in the end it was really all about their bottom line. We think we can do both and do it well... We have an awesome group of girls starting out with us. They are beautiful, intelligent and charming young women with life goals and whom we want to help get where they are going."

"Food service work has always been a starting point for young men and women, soon to head off to college and if we can be a stepping stone for that, then we welcome them with open arms, if even only temporarily," says Calog.

The Cool Cow's tempting drink menu includes coffee and espresso drinks made from Columbia River Coffee Roasters' products, including their fresh-brewed Cool Cow Blend. Each drink is made even more delicious with the addition of a little chocolate cow cookie on the top.

For anyone looking for a quick bite during the day, the Cool Cow also serves up made-to-order breakfast sandwiches, biscuits and gravy, homemade salads, deli-style sandwiches with freshly sliced meats and hamburgers featuring slices of Tillamook cheddar cheese. Prepare to be impressed with their signature desserts, such as the ice cream latte, a chocolate-coconut-Kahlua Cow Pie or the Jumping Chocolate Cow - a walnut brownie soaked with two shots of espresso and topped with vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce, whipped cream and the signature cow cookie. Sundaes, milkshakes, banana splits and waffle cones filled with any of the six flavors of Tillamook ice cream are also available for a cold treat.

Morgan says she also plans to make the Cool Cow a community-minded company. In the future, she plans to sponsor a local softball team, offer financial support to youth in the 4-H bovine program, and sponsor a story time for younger children at local schools and day care centers - who will be invited down to the Cool Cow for a story (about cows of course), an ice cream treat and a cow balloon.

Located at the junction of State route 4 and State route 401 in Naselle, the Cool Cow Coffee Company is open seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Their phone number is (360) 484-3600.
