OCEAN PARK - Ocean Park resident Darnell Bell James, 57, died March 15, 2003 in Ilwaco.

Born Sept. 12, 1945 in Myrtle Point, Ore., she was the daughter of Marion and Lucille (Burkhart) Hackler. She lived in the Tacoma area where she grew up, married and gave birth to her children.

Ms. James moved to the Peninsula in the early 1980s. She worked at Dover Living Center and later did home health care. She was a very active member of Peninsula Assembly of God in Ocean Park. She served her Lord and her church in many areas of ministry. Communion preparation, church janitor, choir member, information center - she did it all and more. She lived her Christian faith daily.

Blessed with a warm smile and caring nature, she seldom missed an opportunity to meet others and express her love for them and the Lord. Those who came in contact with her were blessed.

She is survived by sons Tommy Carothers and Shawn James; daughter Cyndi; grandchildren Amber, Autumn, Ricky, Adam, Jake, Cassidy and Shawn Jr.; great-grandson Samuel; daughter-in-law Patricia Smith and son-in-law Howard Brown.

Home-going service will be held Wednesday, March 19, at 3 p.m. at the Peninsula Assembly of God Church with Pastor DeWayne LaPointe officiating. Graveside service follows at Ocean Park Cemetery. Arrangements by Penttila's Chapel by The Sea, Long Beach.
