OCEAN PARK - Darwin F. Egan, 81, died at his Ocean Park residence on Jan. 5, 2004.
The son of Frank and Sarah (Sargent) Egan, he was born in Arvada, Wyo. on July 22, 1923. He grew up in Arvada and Graduated from high school in Greybull, Wyo.
Following high school, Egan moved with his family to Seattle where he worked as a riveter for Boeing Aircraft. In 1942 he was drafted to the U.S. Army where he served until a medical discharge a year later. He returned to Boeing where he worked for the duration of the war.
With the war over, he moved to Portland where he operated a service station. He then went to work for Standard Oil and moved to Edmonds, Wash. When he retired 30 years later, he had also lived in Boise, Idaho and Clackamas, Ore. Following retirement he moved to Ocean Park in 1983.
Mr. Egan enjoyed fishing, traveling, reading, watching football and basketball. He was a devoted family man who also enjoyed the slower pace that retirement at the coast brought.
He and Joyce Stanley were married June 2, 1945 in Seattle. She survives him at the family residence. Also surviving are daughters Christine Greene of Tampa, Fla., and Kathleen Egan of Milwaukie, Ore.; son Michael Egan of Camano Island; sister Pat Sofer of McMinnville, Ore., and grandsons Marcus Egan and Matthew White.
At his request, there will be no formal service. Cremation arrangements by Penttila's Chapel by The Sea, Long Beach.
