ROSBURG - S/Sgt. David Strong, the son of Gene and Linda Strong of Rosburg and a graduate of Naselle High School, is now stationed with his Army unit in Afghanistan. The Strongs reported that David, who had recently been stationed at Fort Drum, N.Y., for advanced training, was sent to Afghanistan along with other members of his unit.
Linda Strong said, "Dave left on the 18th of January for Afghanistan. He was the platoon leader of a squad going over in advance to receive the equipment and start setting things up for his unit. He is part of the 10th Mountain Division, 3rd Brigade Combat Team. He will be in Afghanistan for at least a year." On Jan. 1 he was promoted to staff sergeant.
Gene Strong added, "Dave is in Afghanistan at Bagraham waiting for a flight to the base he will be stationed at. He didn't write much with the photos, but he did say when he had called, that the mountains there were something else."
Strong can receive mail while stationed in Afghanistan. His address is:
Bravo Co. 710th BSB 3rd BCT 10th Mtn Div
APO AE, 09314
They are in a remote location and if the weather is bad the planes cannot land, which can delay the mail. So Becca Strong, David's wife, asks people sending lots of letters to number them so he can read them in order.
He may be able to get e-mail occasionally, and as soon as the Strongs learn more details they will pass on the information.
