Debbie Garrett is the new advertising consultant at the Chinook Observer. She started her full-time post in February helping area businesses with their advertising messages.
After moving to the Peninsula two years ago, Garrett worked at Okie's Sentry Market. Prior to that, she worked at Intel for 22 years, the last 15 in sales and marketing.
"I like working with people," she said. "Working at Okie's gave me a good base because I got to meet many people. That helps a lot.
"My experience with sales and marketing at Intel will help me help the businesses here," she added. "Besides, ad sales is much more fun than computer sales."
Garrett makes her home in Ocean Park with her daughter, Ashley, who attends Ilwaco High School and is a cheerleader and on the softball team. Garrett also has an 18-year-old son, James, who lives in Montana.
A self-described workaholic, Garrett enjoys hanging out at the beach with her dogs, camping, horseback riding and many other outdoor activities. She's involved with her daughter's sports and believes supporting the schools is important.
Her goal at the Observer is to "help increase business and give to our community. We have a plan to work for every advertiser," she said. "We're also working on changing the look of the ads to draw more attention to them."
