BAKER BAY - NOAA Fisheries scientists will be installing a new detection system on Sand Island for salmon that are acoustically tagged at Bonneville Dam. The system will check the survival here of "out-migrant juvenile salmonids."

They'll be putting detection lines from West Sand Island to the Clatsop Spit and just before the bar.

The "array" they're trying to place is a survival demonstration, and they've built anchors containing nodes thatsit on the bottom. Three are to be deployed in near future. NOAA Fisheries will put communications trailer on Sand Island by barge, probably Wednesday.
