BOISE, IDAHO - Donald G. White of Boise, Idaho formerly of Long Beach died on Jan. 6, 2003 at the age of 86, at Treasure Valley Care Center in Boise. The funeral service was held on Jan. 10 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Church in Boise, with burial at Terrace Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Mr. White was born July 22, 1916 at Colton, Idaho to Joseph and Aurelia White. He later moved to Meridian and Nampa, Idaho where he received his education. As a young man he and a friend journeyed to California where he worked at Douglas Aircraft for several years.
He married Viola Faye White on Sept. 30, 1937 in Los Angeles, Calif.
During World War II he worked for Norris Manufacturing Company making ammunition. After the war he and his wife moved to Boise, Idaho where they raised their family. He purchased a gas station in downtown Boise. After several years he sold the station and purchased one in Kuna, Idaho which he ran for nine years. He and his family then moved back to Boise and he was superintendent of the Boise City Shops for 12 years.
In 1976 they moved to the Long Beach Peninsula and worked on a family fishing boat. In 1978 Don became the superintendent for the Seaview Sewer District, a position he held until his retirement in October 2001.
Mr. White was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served as Second Counselor, President of Sunday School and High Priest Group Leader. He was a long time member of the Elks Lodge and was chosen "Elk of the Year" in both Boise, Idaho and in Long Beach. In 1989 he was named "Citizen of the Year" in Long Beach. He served on numerous committees for charity and community programs.
His two joys in life were hunting and fishing and also telling stories about his trips. He enjoyed many fishing trips to Alaska with his friends, his wife Faye then later with his son Denis. He will be dearly missed by all of us who knew and loved him.
Survivors include: daughter Diane and Robert Jensen of Newport, Ore.; sons: Denis and Ruth White, and Kenneth White of Boise, Idaho, and Gerald and Ila White of Carson City, Nev.; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; his twin sister Dorothy Ward of Boise, Idaho and brother Roy White of Spanish Fork, Utah. He was preceded in death by his wife Viola Faye, an infant daughter, his parents, brothers Joe White, Ray White and Glen Davis, and three step-sisters Jean, Lillian and Lula.
Services were under the direction of Cloverdale Funeral Home, 1200 N. Cloverdale Road, Boise, ID 83713.
