CAMANO ISLAND - Eugene C. Gardner, 57, of Camano Island died at his home Jan. 3, 2004 of a cerebral hematoma. Funeral Services will be held at the Presbyterian Church in Yakima at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17.

Gardner was born May 7, 1946 in Yakima, a son of Ray and Helen Gardner. After graduation from Sunnyside High School in 1964, Gene/Geno got married and joined the U.S. Air Force for four years and then attended Central Washington University earning his master's degree.

After that, Gardner joined the U.S. Army to do what he loved, flying helicopters. He did his training at Fort Rucker, Ala., achieving warrant officer rank and later flew a Chinook chopper (the hook) out of Fort Lewis.

Gardner was an avid fly fisherman and enjoyed all types of sporting events.

He is survived by his parents Helen and Ray Gardner of Ocean Park; brother Dolan Gardner of Ocean Park; daughters, Danielle of Yakima, and Nicole of Valrico, Fla., and four grandchildren.
