'Finnish Line' greets Oregon cyclists

ASTORIA - Some members of FinnFest USA '06 were at the "Finnish Line" of the week-long Cycle Oregon bicycle tour that followed the route of Lewis and Clark in the bicentennial anniversary of that epic journey.

More than 2,000 bicycle riders completed the week long tour when they crossed the "Finnish line" in Astoria - a few yards away from the Columbia River - on Saturday, Sept. 17. This was the 18th year that Cycle Oregon has been held, but the first time in Astoria.

The spectators and volunteers, many of them members of Scandinavian groups dressed in authentic garments, welcomed the bike riders and their support staff at the conclusion of the 425-mile trek.

About a dozen members of FinnFest USA '06, which will be held in Astoria and Naselle on July 26 to July 30, 2006, were among hundreds of volunteers at the end of the Cycle Oregon tour.
